FIFA 21 Realistic Career Mode

Introduction
Hey there,
I try to make a set of career mode rules every FIFA to make it much more realistic because as we all know, there's flaws every year. Many of the rules have been copied from my FIFA 20 post earlier this year and edited to satisfy FIFA 21 updates. I'd really like some feedback and ideas on if there should be some tweaks and changes for a more well-rounded experience. I'll adjust this post whenever I feel there is a good addition as I will be using this throughout the entire year.
Throughout the post I'll reference each restriction for each division of English football. However, this can be used for other divisions too based on the clubs overall rating (average of your best XI). You can adjust these slightly if you wish. The divisions ratings I'll be using are as follows:
  • League Two and League One = 65 or Lower
  • Championship = 66-75
  • Premier League = 76+
eg. If you choose say, Trabzonspor (72 - at this current time), it would fit into the bracket of Championship tier etc.
Also, very important. Make sure to jot down the date of when you start the career mode so you can use Sofifa as reference for finding team ratings in your save. It's needed so you can make an educated guess if buying/selling to a team is a realistic move.

Youth Scouting
- You're allowed a maximum of 2 youth signings to the senior squad per season (you must always follow manager objectives though - e.g. if they ask for a youth striker, you have to sign a youth striker). The reason I say you should only sign 2 per season is because naturally you don't see a full team of youths entering the squad every season and with the youth academy being as overpowered as it is, it's best to limit that mechanic.
- You have to sign one youth for each position into the academy. If you already have a youth in your academy of that position, make the decision to sign him or not. If you do want to sign the newly scouted youth, you have to release the one you already have in that position. This way, you can see an entire team develop in the academy and it gives you options of which 2 youths you want to sign each season. If you have already signed 2 youths this season and one of your youths wants to leave, you have to let him leave.
- You have to use one of your three scouts to explore the country of your club's origin. When not in the PL tier, the other two spots should be from neighbouring countries, countries using the same language as your clubs origin or the scout's origin.

Youth Scouting Potential
- Restriction signing youths based on potential:
  • In League One and Two tier, you're not allowed to sign any youths with a potential higher than 80.
  • In Championship tier, you're not allowed to sign any youths with a potential higher than 85.
  • In PL tier (without European football), you're not allowed to sign any youth with a potential higher than 90.
  • In PL tier (with European football), you can sign youths of any potential.
- As a request in the comments section - Teams who have excellent youth academies such as Ajax, Sporting and Southampton (etc) can fit into the category of signing youths of any potential. This is purely optional and is your own preference as there is no clear cut way of rating the youth systems in the world but if you know a team has a strong academy in real life, you can use your own rules of signing youths with high potential.

Scouting Staff
- You're only allowed to make a single change to both of the scouting staff teams each season (GTN and Academy).
- Staff quality by division:
  • In League One and Two tier, you can only sign a staff member with a maximum total of 4 stars.
  • In Championship tier, you can only sign a staff member with a maximum total of 6 stars.
  • In PL tier (without European football), you can only sign a staff member with a maximum total of 8 stars.
  • In PL tier (with European football), you can hire any scout.
- Country Scouting:
  • In League One and Two, you can only use 3 scouts to explore neighbouring countries and they have to be countries of the same language. e.g Mansfield Town can only scout in England, Ireland and Scotland
  • In Championship tier, you can only use 4 scouts to explore neighbouring countries and they have to be countries of the same language. But you can also explore one nearby foreign speaking country.
  • In PL tier (without European football), you can only use 5 scouts but you can scout anywhere.
  • In PL tier (with European football), you have full access in scouting.

Buying Players
- First of all, turn off the first window of your career mode because in real life we've already had this window and you need to get a feel of your players to see which ones you do and don't like.
- You are NOT allowed to use websites to find players of high potential. This should be a given if you are wanting realism because otherwise it defeats the point the GTN.
- You have to fully scout a player before you can buy him.
- New signings cannot be more than 2 ratings higher than your average team rating (average of your best XI) and you cannot sign more than 2 players each season which are above your average team rating. This doesn't apply to loan moves/
- Regarding age, you can only buy a maximum of 2 players below the age of 24 each season. This restricts the team from being overloaded with youths with crazy high potentials (your youth system doesn't count towards this rule). Again, this doesn't apply to loaning.
- This isn't mandatory but try to make realistic transfers. For example: If you are Mansfield Town and you got promoted to League One in the first season and your scouting for a goalkeeper but there is a choice of one from Portsmouth and one from Morecambe then go for the Morecambe one because you have the high ground of being a division higher while Portsmouth will likely still be a better or around the same rating as you. Buy from the poor, Sell to the rich.
- Specific offers have to be made based on age and rating. This time I've created a table with what I think is a good percentage based offer to start with (here). E.g. If you have found a player who is 22 and is 1 rating higher than your overall rating, then start with an offer of 160% of his normal value (this was a quick creation so any advice on adjustments to values is appreciated).
- Certain aspects can affect the value of the player:
  • If there is the "Leader of men" or "Has that something special" status on the player, add 5%
  • If there is the "Showing great potential" status on the player, add 15%
  • If there is the "An exciting prospect" status on the player, add 30%
  • If there is the "Has potential to be special" status on the player, add 45%
  • If the player has a short term injury (up to 2 months), remove 5%
  • If the player has a long term injury (over 2 months), remove 10%
  • If the player is in poor form, remove 20%
  • If the player's morale is unhappy, remove 40%
  • If the player is in excellent form, add 20%
  • If the player's morale is happy, add 40%
  • If the player is transfer listed, remove 15%
- You're not allowed to sign players from a higher level division unless they are unhappy, in bad form or transfer listed but you can loan them in regardless of division level.
- Regarding rival clubs, you can't buy from them unless the player is unhappy and you can't loan in ANY player from rival clubs.
- You can't buy players who are loan listed.
- You can only sign a player who's on 6 months of his contract left for free or is already a free agents, once every two seasons and this player has to be at least 2 ratings lower than your average best XI rating. Signing players on a free is overpowered and in FIFA, you'll find plenty of high rated players who will be free, avoid this because it only ruins the realism of the game.
- When negotiating contracts for the player you're signing, you have only 2 chances to change the contract however you want, whether it's to refuse the release clause or to lower the demanded wages or remove signing on bonus etc. After those 2 chances have been used, you have to accept the outcome on the terms you are given or end talks. This also goes for contract negotiation regarding your own players too.

Selling Players
Originally, I opted for a choice of two methods here however one of the methods wasn't reliable enough. If you still want to use it though or take a look at it here.
In real life there will always be outgoings of star players by clubs who didn't necessarily want to sell them, especially for lower quality teams. However this is inevitable and like real life, I want to recreate that in a way to force outgoings to pressure your activity in the transfer window. So I've created a set of rules to follow.
- You are forced to sell at least 3 players in the summer window and 1 in the winter window. This carries too so if you only sell 2 in the summer, make sure to sell that 3rd one along with your single outgoing in the winter too.
  • If you are in League One/Two tier, only 1 of the 4 can be sold via transfer listing a player.
  • If you are in Championship tier, only 2 of the 4 can be sold via transfer listing a player.
  • If you are in PL tier (without European football), only 3 of the 4 can be sold via transfer listing a player.
  • If you are in PL (with European football), it can be all 4 from transfer listing them.
- If you have already had 4 offers for players that meet the conditions of selling them immediately before being able to sell a transfer listed player, then so be it, there's nothing you can do about it.
- This is where things can get complicated though. If you get an offer from a team from a different country, you need to work out what rating they are. There are two ways of doing this. A simple one or the more complex one. It's your choice really.
  1. Simple Version: The only way of truly checking what rating they'd possible be is by using a site such as Sofifa. As noted in the introduction, use the date of when you started your career mode to check what rating a team was at the start of it. If you get an offer from Napoli who is 81 rated on 16/10/20, they would be in PL tier etc.
  2. Complex Version: The other, more complicated version requires you to first find out what the team's rating was at the start of the career mode as seen in the simple version, '1'. Then you will find out what ranking they are in their own division and the position value. Depending what window you are in, you will be required to check the league position of that team. If you are in the winter window, you can simply go to other leagues and check whereabouts they are in league position. However for the summer window, you could make a screenshot of each league division to check the whereabouts they were at the end of the previous season (this of course is extreme but you'll get a better idea of how good a team is who is making an offer). So once you know what ranking they was and what league position they are in, find that team's new position by using the position value. The formula you'll be using is: New Rating = Original Rating -\+ (Position Value x Amount of Position Change)
This is very complicated so I'll give an example.
e.g. Napoli are a 81 rated team and 3rd highest in the Serie A (on 16/10/20). The Serie A is ranged from 83 to 70 making the range value, 13. The amount of teams in the Serie A is 20. So divide 13 by 20, which will get you 0.65. This is the position value. If Napoli go in for one of your players in winter but are currently 11th in the league, their current rating is 76 rated (75.8 = 81 - (0.65 x 8)).
e.g 2. After taking screenshots before the season ends and you see Atalanta goes in for one of your players in the summer. Atalanta are 79 rated and 5th highest in the Serie A (on 16/10/20). Check their finishing position on the screenshot and you see they finished 2nd, their new rating is 81 rated (80.95 = 79 + (0.65 x 3)).
This isn't going to be an exact reading of a teams rating but it's the closest we can get while not knowing what they are. If anyone has other suggestions, I'm all ears.
The rules of selling players:
- In the Summer: If a club comes in for one of your players who is from a division higher than you, sell that player immediately to that club.
- In the Summer: Before each season ends, check the squad stats and look for your top 5 and bottom 5 performers (average performance rating of a player). If a team who is 3 ratings higher than you makes an offer for any of these 5 players, sell that player immediately. This only needs to happen once. You also need to accept an offer for at least one of your bottom 5 performers. Well performing players for lower league clubs will get noticed and will very likely move up come summer so this creates an idea of realism meanwhile you weakest performers simply deserve to be sold.
- In the Winter: You can decline offers for any of your top 5 performers as teams don't usually sell their best players in winter.
- Both Windows: If you have had 2 offers for a player, sell that player on the next viable offer (he has to be sold to a club who is at least 2 ratings higher than your average rating).
- Both Windows: If the player is unhappy in morale, has asked to leave or feels he should be playing at a better club, you have to sell him on the next offer.
- Both Windows: If you get an offer that exceeds the expected range of transfer offers then sell him immediately. e.g. If a player is worth 500,000 and you get an offer of 750,000 but your assistant says that the player is worth between 530,000 and 670,000, then you have to sell him because it exceed that range.
- Both Windows: Once 3 players have been forced to leave in the summer and 1 in the winter, you can decline any other offers during that window if you want to, no matter what conditions they fall under
- Both Windows: If it's a rival, you cannot sell to them unless it's a player that you don't want or if the player has expressed his unhappiness at the club. You can't loan to them either.
- Both Windows: Loaning obviously doesn't count towards selling players, but you can loan as much as you want. Just a tip though, try to loan your players out to teams that'll most likely give them game time.
The rules of how much a player should go for:
- Just like when buying players, use the table which you can use to value a player you are selling here. You will sell based on your own squad rating still. E.g. if you have to sell Ryan Sweeney who is [as of 16/10/20] valued at 700,000 , is 63 rated and is 23 years of age. Mansfield Towns overall rating (average of their best XI) is also 63 rated, he'll go for 145% of his value (1,015,000).
I understand that clubs may easily decline many offers based on this table as they'll say it's too much or they'll simply decline, so I would suggest manually negotiating the offer they made with them to get as close to your calculated offer as much as possible. The money that couldn't get out of it, take it off your next transfer in. So for instance, say I could only manage to get 915,000 for Ryan Sweeney. I would take that 100,000 and try to take it off my next transfer in, that way it balances out.
- You will also use a similar value manipulation as you would for buying players to add some realism in transfer worth.
  • If there is the "Leader of men" or "Has that something special" status on the player, add 5%
  • If there is the "Showing great potential" status on the player, add 15%
  • If there is the "An exciting prospect" status on the player, add 30%
  • If there is the "Has potential to be special" status on the player, add 45%
  • If the player has a short term injury (up to 2 months), remove 5%
  • If the player has a long term injury (over 2 months), remove 10%
  • If the player is happy with his contract or game time, add 5% for each.
  • If the player is happy with the team performance, add 10%
  • If the player is happy with his own performance, add 20%
  • If the player is unhappy with his contract or game time, remove 5% for each
  • If the player is unhappy with the team performance, remove 10%
  • If the player is unhappy with his own performance, remove 20%
  • If the player is in good form, add 10%
  • If the player is in excellent form, add 20%
  • If the player is in bad form, remove 20%
  • If the player is transfer listed, remove 15%

Extra
- Maintain a nationality rule, so you have to have at least 8 players the same nationality as the club. If you are starting at a club with less than 8 nationals, make sure by the end of the winter window that you do.
- You need to attempt all managerial goals as well as possible.
- You can't have minus profit 2 seasons in a row.
- No press conferences. I feel press conferences make it FAR too easy to keep morale high.
- Possibly avoid getting high grades on squad training to prevent everyone growing so quickly.

Final Remarks
So far that's everything I've thought about, please give me feedback on things and how it can be improved. Specifically some things I'd like to improve on currently:
  • How can we prevent dynamic potential being so overpowered in FIFA 21 because it feels extremely unrealistic.
  • Any additional rules that can be added to make it more likely to be forced to sell players
  • Any rules added to the extra section which could make career mode more realistic.
